Paul Lawrence Grant II a.k.a. J. Paul Jr. is no doubt the “Zydeco Rebel”. With his own style and sound, he has taken zydeco to the next level nationally.

The son of a pastor, Paul grew up in Conroe, TX playing drums in his father’s church. “I’m kind of musically inclined” he comments to Buster Dean for the Houston Chronicle. “I can pretty much pick up any instrument and play it by ear.”

J. Paul Jr. spent 3 years playing drums with Step Rideau and the Zydeco Outlaws before picking up the accordion __ years ago. He formed his own band and started performing at local clubs, churches and different events.

As lead singer of the Zydeco NuBreeds, he is enjoying much success with band mates, John John (scrub board), Dino (guitar), Sugar Hill (bass), and Josh (drums).

“I want to be out there doing bigger and bigger things”, he says to Tonya Morrison of the American Press. “There is so much out there left to do”. To my #1 fan, my mother Annie, thanks for your love and support. Love you momma.
